Porsche 718

Has Porsche made a huge mistake? The 718 Boxter and Cayman are porsche’s first efforts in downsizing from their screaming flat sixes to turbo charged four bangers. For many, especially porsche purists, this is perceived as a sign that porsche is going to hell in a hand basket. I beg to differ. If you look back at porsche history, it is littered with race winning four cylinders. Heck, with out the original flat four from the Beatle, we wouldn’t even have the porsche that we have today. Let’s look at the 356. When it came out, it was the very first production car porsche had ever produced. It used a dialed down version of their own race engine. This pushed (literally) the 356 commercial and technical success which would eventually lead to the car we all know and love, the 911. So if history is any indication, porsche knows it’s way around a 4 cylinder and will continue to make extremely capable
cars with the key porsche style.
